The PAPA Prayer

God has really been speaking to my heart, prodding at me to get to know Him deeper. I've been a "Christian" since I was just a little girl. I've prayed, but all too often my prayers have seemed like empty words that go unheard.

I have a longing to know my maker like never before. After reading Heaven is for Real, I've been imagining even more what it will be like when I see Jesus and embrace Him, visit with God the Father on His throne, hug and talk with my loved ones that have passed before me, etc. I wonder.

I hunger to know Jesus as intimately as I can before I meet Him someday in Heaven.

I want to communicate with Him in a deeper, more meaningful way than ever before. I have felt like I've been at a roadblock. So, through a friends recommendation, I started reading The PAPA Prayer by Dr. Larry Crabb. I'm just into the first few chapters, yet I am already feeling God move in me. This is so exciting!

When I asked Jesus to be my savior, Papa’s Spirit moved into my heart, and made it His home. Every moment He’s whispering that Jesus loves me. The amazing thing is that Jesus wants to make His home in all of our hearts, not just a select few! God is the only omnipresent spirit/being- He can be everywhere at once (this boggles my mind, but I guess if you made the universe, you can do anything)!

My journey to get closer and closer to Him will never end. We can't get close enough to Jesus. One day we will be in Heaven and know more than we will ever know here on earth. Until then, I am in pursuit of God's heart. I screw up daily, and in that, my pursuit of Him is imperfect, but He never stops pursuing us. When I think I have failed too many times, he lifts my head, wipes the tears from my eyes, and washes all my blemishes away, making me clean- a new creation in Him. That is the beauty of His grace.

No-Bake Cookies

Yesterday, I made an old-time favorite. I remember my mom making these when I was young, pouring a little in bowls and eating it like warm no-bake cookie soup! Yummy!

 No Bake Cookies
1 3/4 cups white sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 cups quick-cooking oats
1/4 c coconut (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Put oats  and coconut in large bowl; set aside. Then, in a medium saucepan, combine sugar, milk, butter, and cocoa. Bring to a full boil, and cook for 1 1/2 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and peanut butter. Pour over oats and coconut. Mix. Eat it as warm no-bake cookie soup, or drop by teaspoonfuls onto wax paper, aluminum foil or parchment paper. Let cool until hardened. Makes a sweet treat for breakfast!

Ephesians 5 & 6

I opened my Bible last night, not knowing what to read. I turned to this, I've read it before, but decided to again. I'm glad I did. It was really good for me. Thought I'd share :)

(Amplified Bible)
Ephesians 5

1THEREFORE BE imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father].
2And walk in love, [esteeming and delighting in one another] as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a [a]slain offering and sacrifice to God [for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance.(A)

3But immorality (sexual vice) and all impurity [[b]of lustful, rich, wasteful living] or greediness must not even be named among you, as is fitting and proper among saints (God's consecrated people).

4Let there be no filthiness (obscenity, indecency) nor foolish and sinful (silly and corrupt) talk, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting or becoming; but instead voice your thankfulness [to God].

5For be sure of this: that no person practicing sexual vice or impurity in thought or in life, or one who is covetous [who has lustful desire for the property of others and is greedy for gain]--for he [in effect] is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

6Let no one delude and deceive you with empty excuses and groundless arguments [for these sins], for through these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of rebellion and disobedience.

7So do not associate or be sharers with them.

8For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light [lead the lives of those native-born to the Light].

9For the fruit (the effect, the product) of the Light or [c]the Spirit [consists] in every form of kindly goodness, uprightness of heart, and trueness of life.

10And try to learn [in your experience] what is pleasing to the Lord [let your lives be constant proofs of what is most acceptable to Him].

11Take no part in and have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds and enterprises of darkness, but instead [let your lives be so in contrast as to] [d]expose and reprove and convict them.

12For it is a shame even to speak of or mention the things that [such people] practice in secret.

13But when anything is exposed and reproved by the light, it is made visible and clear; and where everything is visible and clear there is light.

14Therefore He says, Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine (make day dawn) upon you and give you light.(B)

15Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),

16Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.

17Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.

18And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit.(C)

19Speak out to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offering praise with voices [[e]and instruments] and making melody with all your heart to the Lord,

20At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.

21Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

22Wives, be subject (be submissive and adapt yourselves) to your own husbands as [a service] to the Lord.

23For the husband is head of the wife as Christ is the Head of the church, Himself the Savior of [His] body.

24As the church is subject to Christ, so let wives also be subject in everything to their husbands.

25Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her,

26So that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the Word,

27That He might present the church to Himself in glorious splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such things [that she might be holy and faultless].

28Even so husbands should love their wives as [being in a sense] their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself.

29For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and carefully protects and cherishes it, as Christ does the church,

30Because we are members (parts) of His body.

31For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.(D)

32This mystery is very great, but I speak concerning [the relation of] Christ and the church.

33However, let each man of you [without exception] love his wife as [being in a sense] his very own self; and let the wife see that she respects and reverences her husband [[f]that she notices him, regards him, honors him, prefers him, venerates, and esteems him; and [g]that she defers to him, praises him, and loves and admires him exceedingly]. [I Pet. 3:2.]

Ephesians 6

1CHILDREN, OBEY your parents in the Lord [as His representatives], for this is just and right.
2Honor (esteem and value as precious) your father and your mother--this is the first commandment with a promise--(A)

3That all may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth.

4Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to resentment], but rear them [tenderly] in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord.

5Servants (slaves), be obedient to those who are your physical masters, having respect for them and eager concern to please them, in singleness of motive and with all your heart, as [service] to Christ [Himself]--

    6Not in the way of eye-service [as if they were watching you] and only to please men, but as servants (slaves) of Christ, doing the will of God heartily and with your whole soul;

7Rendering service readily with goodwill, as to the Lord and not to men,

8Knowing that for whatever good anyone does, he will receive his reward from the Lord, whether he is slave or free.

9You masters, act on the same [principle] toward them and give up threatening and using violent and abusive words, knowing that He Who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no respect of persons (no partiality) with Him.

10In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides].

11Put on God's whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

12For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.

13Therefore put on God's complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].

14Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God,

15And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the [a]firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness [b]produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace.(B)

16Lift up over all the [covering] shield of [c]saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one].

17And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit [d]wields, which is the Word of God.

18Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God's consecrated people).

19And [pray] also for me, that [freedom of] utterance may be given me, that I may open my mouth to proclaim boldly the mystery of the good news (the Gospel),

20For which I am an ambassador in a coupling chain [in prison. Pray] that I may declare it boldly and courageously, as I ought to do.

21Now that you may know how I am and what I am doing, Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord [and His service], will tell you everything.

22I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are and that he may [e]console and cheer and encourage and strengthen your hearts.

23Peace be to the brethren, and love joined with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

24Grace (God's undeserved favor) be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with undying and incorruptible [love]. Amen (so let it be).

Reflection: Heaven is for Real

Oswald Chambers (author of my favorite devo. My Utmost for His Highest) wrote,

"There is nothing, naturally speaking, that makes us lose heart quicker than decay—the decay of bodily beauty, of natural life, of friendship, of associations, all these things make a man lose heart; but Paul says when we are trusting in Jesus Christ these things do not find us discouraged, light comes through them." The Place of Help, 1032 L

I don't know about you, but I find peace and comfort in knowing that our bodies won't last forever. This world filled with suffering and sadness will soon pass.
I recently finished reading Heaven is for Real.

Here is a quick summary of the book, and from the book:
Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear.
Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how "reaaally big" God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit "shoots down power" from heaven to help us.
Told by the father, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle.
I have read other great books, such as Within Heaven's Gates, revealing a person's encounter of Heaven. I love imagining what it will be like to someday be in the Lord's glorious presence, and just soaking up the splendor of heaven! Heaven is for Real was refreshing and authentic. To have faith like a child, the Bible says that is what God calls us to do (Matt. 18:2-5). I love how matter-a-fact Colton is. I have a better picture in my mind of God the father, the Holy Spirit, Jesus, heaven, the other people in heaven, and the deep love He has for us. It's very personal. I wept at the part where he speaks of his sister who was miscarried. I know my child who was miscarried is up there too waiting to meet me!
Just like with anything, there are many cynics out there. I read this for pleasure, not as though it were the Bible. So, I am enjoying the message this story has, and basking in the love that our Heavenly Father has for each one of us! Draw close to Jesus, because there is a spiritual battle going on. Armageddon is nearer each day. Let's keep running with endurance the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1-3).
I get excited (like a little kid going to a theme park) to think of all the wonderfulness that awaits those who make Jesus their Lord! I pray I see you there too!

My Utmost for His Highest: Liberty and the Standards of Jesus: May 6

A great reminder to go make disciples, and not be self-righteous in the way we do it.

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free . . . —Galatians 5:1
A spiritually-minded person will never come to you with the demand—”Believe this and that”; a spiritually-minded person will demand that you align your life with the standards of Jesus. We are not asked to believe the Bible, but to believe the One whom the Bible reveals (see John 5:39-40). We are called to present liberty for the conscience of others, not to bring them liberty for their thoughts and opinions. And if we ourselves are free with the liberty of Christ, others will be brought into that same liberty— the liberty that comes from realizing the absolute control and authority of Jesus Christ.
Always measure your life solely by the standards of Jesus. Submit yourself to His yoke, and His alone; and always be careful never to place a yoke on others that is not of Jesus Christ. It takes God a long time to get us to stop thinking that unless everyone sees things exactly as we do, they must be wrong. That is never God’s view. There is only one true liberty— the liberty of Jesus at work in our conscience enabling us to do what is right.
Don’t get impatient with others. Remember how God dealt with you— with patience and with gentleness. But never water down the truth of God. Let it have its way and never apologize for it. Jesus said, “Go . . . and make disciples. . .” (Matthew 28:19), not, “Make converts to your own thoughts and opinions.”

David Wilkerson: A Call to Anguish

I just recently learned of David Wilkerson. My friend Miriam from work told me about this video. I am so glad she did. It has opened the eyes of my heart even more. Thanks!

Dear God, break my heart for what breaks yours.
Change me, shape me, use me.
Live through me Jesus.
Amen.

Listen to this life changing message spoken by David Wilkerson. You won't be the same...

On Wednesday April 27, 2011 David WIlkerson passed away unexpectedly. Read more about him below via  http://www.worldchallenge.org/about_david_wilkerson/dw_fullbio :

Reverend David Wilkerson is perhaps best known for his early days of ministry to young drug addicts and gang members in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn. His story is told in The Cross and the Switchblade, a book he co-authored which became a best-seller. The story has been read by over 15 million people in some thirty languages since 1963. In 1969, a motion picture of the same title was released.

Reverend Wilkerson served as pastor in small churches in Scottsdale and Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, until he saw a photograph in Life magazine of several New York City teenagers charged with murder. Moved with compassion he was drawn to the city in February 1959. It was then that he began his street ministry to what one writer called "desperate, bewildered, addicted, often violent youth."

That same year, Reverend Wilkerson founded Teen Challenge ministries in Brooklyn, New York, which has reached youth and adults with life-controlling problems worldwide through its 414 centers. The ministry's biblically based recovery program for drug addicts has been recognized as one of the most effective efforts of its kind.

In 1967 he began David Wilkerson Youth Crusades, an evangelistic ministry characterized by Reverend Wilkerson's efforts to reach teenagers he called "goodniks" — middle-class kids who were restless and bored — to prevent them from being seduced into a life of bondage to drugs, alcohol, violence or lawlessness. Through this ministry, CURE Corps (Collegiate Urban Renewal Effort) was founded, in an effort to harness the idealism and sacrificial zeal of many Christian young people who knew about the Peace Corps and Vista but wanted to give their lives to Christ-centered efforts.

In 1971, Reverend Wilkerson's ever-expanding ministry moved its headquarters to Texas, where he founded World Challenge, Inc.  The ministry's mission is to promote and perpetuate the message of Christ through public teachings.
In 1986, while walking down 42nd Street in New York City at midnight, Reverend Wilkerson's heart broke yet again for God to raise up a ministry in Times Square. He cried out to God to do something, and at one o'clock that morning he sensed the Lord speaking to his heart, "You do something. You start a church. You know the city and you love it." At that moment, Times Square Church was birthed in Reverend Wilkerson's heart. The church opened its doors in October 1987, first in rented auditoriums in Times Square and eventually in the historic Mark Hellinger Theater, which the ministry purchased in 1989. Today, Times Square Church, with a missions-focused congregation, is a virtual microcosm of New York City. Nearly 8,000 people representing over 100 nationalities worship together under one roof.

For over four decades, Reverend Wilkerson's evangelistic ministry has included preaching, teaching and writing. Throughout that time a distinctive characteristic of his work has been his direct efforts to reach the neediest among us with help for both body and soul. He has authored over 30 books including, The Cross and the Switchblade, The Vision, Revival on Broadway, Hungry for More of Jesus, Have You Felt Like Giving Up Lately?, and The New Covenant Unveiled.
Now in his seventies, Rev. Wilkerson has been led by the Holy Spirit to exhort pastors and their spouses throughout the world to renew their passion for Christ. "I've been an evangelist for 50 years, but I didn't want to preach to pastors until I had gray hair, until I'd pastored. Now after 15 years of pastoring, sharing the hurts, pains, and difficulties of the ministry as a pastor, I felt the Lord finally release me, that I might have something to say."

Until his passing, Reverend Wilkerson and his wife Gwen lived in New York City. They have four children and 11 grandchildren.

*As I make this post, this song has been playing over and over in my head:

Sabbath Sunday: 5.1.11

We walk by faith, not by sight —2 Corinthians 5:7
For a while, we are fully aware of God’s concern for us. But then, when God begins to use us in His work, we begin to take on a pitiful look and talk only of our trials and difficulties. And all the while God is trying to make us do our work as hidden people who are not in the spotlight. None of us would be hidden spiritually if we could help it. Can we do our work when it seems that God has sealed up heaven? Some of us always want to be brightly illuminated saints with golden halos and with the continual glow of inspiration, and to have other saints of God dealing with us all the time. A self-assured saint is of no value to God. He is abnormal, unfit for daily life, and completely unlike God. We are here, not as immature angels, but as men and women, to do the work of this world. And we are to do it with an infinitely greater power to withstand the struggle because we have been born from above.
If we continually try to bring back those exceptional moments of inspiration, it is a sign that it is not God we want. We are becoming obsessed with the moments when God did come and speak with us, and we are insisting that He do it again. But what God wants us to do is to “walk by faith.” How many of us have set ourselves aside as if to say, “I cannot do anything else until God appears to me”? He will never do it. We will have to get up on our own, without any inspiration and without any sudden touch from God. Then comes our surprise and we find ourselves exclaiming, “Why, He was there all the time, and I never knew it!” Never live for those exceptional moments— they are surprises. God will give us His touches of inspiration only when He sees that we are not in danger of being led away by them. We must never consider our moments of inspiration as the standard way of life— our work is our standard.
